Tintypes and ambrotypes are some of the oldest types of photographs. I create my pieces using a camera-less process. Small aluminium plates or glass plates are prepared (an emulsion is applied, then the plate is dipped in a silver bath to make it light sensitive). In the darkroom, I place a plant or feather in the enlarger (where a negative would normally go). I project that plant onto the wet plate, then develop the plate. Once dry, the plates are varnished.
All plates in this collection are 3.5" x 4.5" or 8" x 10"
